FTC UK

Free the Child is committed to supporting and empowering children and young people, providing advice on education, career choices and life skills as well as counseling on personal and family matters.  We run ongoing projects throughout year at our FTC center in North London to help us achieve the charity objectives, as well as organising trips, talent shows and collaborating with other young people's charity in the neighbouring boroughs. Our services provide an opportunity for everyone to be actively involved in a number of recreational projects such as:

'Health is Wealth'

Young people are taken through a series of outdoor and indoor physical exercise classes led by a professional team, and are encouraged to make healthier life choices. This project imparted and will continue to impart the lives of the young people a great deal.

"At first I was reluctant to join in the fitness class because I didn't like running then, but after I saw all my friends and the volunteers  getting into it I got involved and always look forward to the team coming back", Amy, 13.

'Bounce Back'

People who might have suffered the effects of abuse are empowered through counseling, talks and advice sessions and various activities such as drama and music to help them bounce back to life.

"The best part of Bounce back is that you know you are not the only person going through problems, and you are able to talk about them with other young people in a non-judgemental environment", Akan, 11.

'Way Up'

A follow up to 'Bounce Back', this project aims to enhance the confidence and self esteem of young people through counseling, training and structured sporting activities.

"I enjoyed the training, there was so much I didn't about the different forms of abuse and recovery methods", Natalie 17.

'Postcode Peace'

Our most recent project yet, the aim of Postcode Peace is to help eradicate the negative stereotypes and gang culture that pertain within youngsters living in the various post codes in London, and to help bring about harmony and unity in conjunction with the Wilton youth group in Hackney. FTC also takes part in the London Week of Peace Concert and Talent Quest in Trafalgar Square, Join us!

"The Wilton Youth Group made postcode peace really interesting, it felt satisfying being to socialise with young people from a different area without the threat of violence", Luke 19.

FTC and TheKnowList -Inspire to Aspire

In June 2011,TheKnowList sponsored Free the Child's Inspire to Aspire community show; an event to motivate and inspire young people to aspire for success in their lives. The event saw a wealth of motivational speakers from the Metropolitan Police, NHS, successful young people as well as the event sponsor himself Daniel Brown and gave young people the opportunity to learn from success stories and equip them to achieve their highest potential.  Following Inspire to Aspire, TheKnwowList generously sponsored a competiton named Aspire to be Creative, which asked young people to enter their own art or creative work into a competition that was voted on by TheKnowList members. The winner was Remiah Martinz who submitted a cover of John Mayer's Slow Dancing in a burning room and performed at the highly acclaimed TheKnowList Awards in January 2012.
